Throughout 2024, Goonvean have focused on giving back to our community as a group. A number of staff members from Goonvean Fibres and Goonvean Group recently participated in a Young Enterprise business day at local secondary school, Cullompton Community College. Goonvean Fibres funded the day.
The Young Enterprise Launch Pad initiative
Goonvean staff spent the day at the school as Class Mentor volunteers, a part of the Young Enterprise Launch Pad initiative. Their role was to support the students with developing a business plan and help them gain an understanding of how this process works.
Over 100 students took part; their brief was to buy, develop, and present a new business to the Goonvean Class Mentors. (Think Dragons’ Den, minus the big stacks of cash on the table.)
Our Class Mentors supported the students with developing their financial, employability, and enterprise skills by helping them launch a fledgling business. The team enjoyed passing on their expertise and encouraging the students to balance a budget, create a brand identity, and devise a marketing strategy.
Some fantastic business ideas were created, and great fun was had by everyone who participated. James Mullins, Managing Director from Goonvean Fibres, said:
“It was so good to think that some of these great students could go on to become entrepreneurs one day – and hopefully we may have helped them on their way. Young Enterprise is such a fantastic organisation, and we are proud to support it.”
