As part of our ongoing mission to support our communities, Goonvean Group recently partnered with Young Enterprise, a charity that works to improve the future for young people.
Class Mentor Day at Cullompton Community College
In July, staff from Goonvean Fibres and Goonvean Core Engineering, along with volunteers from local businesses, took part in Class Mentor Day at Cullompton Community College.
The day consisted of supporting, mentoring and encouraging students from Year 7 through to Year 10 as they worked through different business challenges. These challenges were designed to develop practical skills and introduce key commercial concepts. Each challenge was structured in a pre-designed workshop led by the brilliant Young Enterprise leader, Cecile Fouillot-Jones.
An inspirational day
The day offered a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with real-world scenarios and for Goonvean Group to contribute directly to early business education.
It was an inspiring day spent supporting students as they explored actual business challenges, built confidence, and developed key skills for the future. Young Enterprise is an inspirational, forward-thinking charity that continues to empower young people to succeed in both work and life.
Will Hartley, Sales Manager for Goonvean Fibres, commented, “I found the day really rewarding: seeing the young students start the day quiet and nervous about the day’s activities, to coming out of their shell and having the confidence to pitch their business ideas to over 100 people. You could see the passion in the students as they became more excited about their business ideas and learned how they could overcome the challenges they might face. Hopefully, Class Mentor Day gave them the confidence and skills to assist them in later life.”
At Goonvean Group, we embrace the opportunity to be actively involved in initiatives like this. We will continue to support programmes that provide students with meaningful, hands-on experience in enterprise, as well as furthering our outreach in all our local communities.
