We caught up with Sean Spelman, Chief Operating Officer, to find out more about his role at Goonvean Group, and why it’s a great time for companies to join the Group.
What sets Goonvean Group apart from other investment groups?
As a group we’re able to apply all of the resources available to us to every company that comes on board. I believe there’s a huge opportunity to implement best practices and standardise systems, to create synergies and economies of scale. These benefits apply to all the existing group companies, and will automatically become available to new companies joining in the future.
How do you use your expertise to help Goonvean Group?
In terms of helping the Group, I see my role as promoting a level of expertise and operational excellence, to promote a culture of continuous improvement, and embed that across all of the Group companies. I want to allow our companies to leverage the strengths of each other, to share best practices and embrace new ways of working. This creates information from production and operations that allows the companies to really improve what they do, reduce overall costs, and improve efficiencies across the Group.
To be honest, that’s what gets me out of bed every morning: trying to help all our companies, or any company, to become better, more efficient, and more cost effective.
Why is it a great time for a company to join the Group?
I think it’s a huge opportunity for any new company entering the Group. Companies that join the Group are typically relatively small, maybe family-owned; a company that has grown over the years from small beginnings to become a mid-size company. What Goonvean Group can offer them, and what I can also support, are the benefits of having centralised resources, the financial backing of the Group, and having the ability to implement really strong systems and processes.
Immediately upon joining the Group, any company, within a very short period of time, will become a stronger, more efficient, and better operating company than they were before they joined us.
What are you most excited about for the future?
Having the chance to apply my expertise and help businesses and industries that I haven’t worked in before is very exciting. Goonvean Group are on a unique business journey and I’m looking forward to discovering opportunities to bring more new businesses into our group.
