Case Study

Goonvean Aggregates

Located in St. Austell, Cornwall, Goonvean Aggregates is a major supplier of aggregates, sands and gravels, with the ability to process, wash and produce an extensive range of granite based secondary aggregates.

The senior management identified the need for a capital project to invest in a ‘wash plant’. The investment was to support a refocus on recycled product, ensuring the processing of secondary aggregates created and supported a ‘true’ zero to tip philosophy. Utilising the new technology, all materials received to site, as well as ‘mining’ historic waste materials, would be processed to achieve a commercial output.

Investment type:
Capital Equipment

Amount invested:
£2.5 million

Date of investment:
May 2022

Solution

The capital project attained Goonvean Group Board approval and so the equipment was ordered.

Outcome

Following a period of commissioning, the new wash plant was operational and provided the company with improved processing capabilities and leaving zero to tip on all materials processed.

“The introduction of the new technology has been a fantastic addition to our existing capabilities. It supports and underpins our sustainability strategy whilst commercially providing additional product into the market. A significant investment which will deliver both strong environmental and commercial gains for Goonvean Aggregates for the years ahead.”
